Almost intact figurine of a Sphinx that was found east of the Parthenon. Part of the tail is missing. The daemonic figure is seated on her hind legs, staring ahead. Her folded wings curve upwards behind her. Her hair is gathered at the nape of her neck in a bun and she wears a thin diadem or stephane. She has almond-shaped eyes with heavy lids, arched eyebrows, slender and straight nose and a small mouth. Her legs and part of her chest was possibly casted separately, and then attached on her body. It is noteworthy that judging by the position of her feet the Sphinx was not standing on a level surface.
